Invoto just released their video benchmarks report for 2015 product videos. It shows huge growth in both volume and impact. It also shows, for the first time, that video is being consumed on mobile devices more than on desktop (this happened Q4 2015).

The other great thing about this report, although written for consumer brands in e-commerce, it is also very applicable to B2B brands as these stats hold true for business marketers as well.

Here are some of the great video benchmark stats that were included in Invoto’s report:

  • Year-over-year video views increased 42% from 2014. This growth rate is nearly 3x greater than the 16% growth rate from 2013 to 2014.
  • Mobile played a major role in 2015 growth. Mobile views increased by nearly 150% year-over-year, while desktop views increased by a respectable 25%.
  • Video views peaked on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, especially on mobile devices. The number of mobile views increased by over 200% year-over-year on each day, while desktop views increased by just 11%.
  • View rates held strong at 12.4%. View rates remained consistent from 2014 but skewed higher on mobile devices (12.8% for smartphones, 13.8% for tablets).
  • Video length influences engagement. Sixty-two percent of viewers watched to completion in 2015, with 16- to 30-second long videos averaging the highest completion (75%).
  • Video viewers are more likely to buy. Shoppers who watch a video are 1.68x more likely to purchase than non-viewers.
  • Device-type does not affect video influence.* Although more people buy on desktop computers, video influence remains consistent across all devices (1.69x for desktop, 1.59x for smartphones, 1.6x for tablets).
  • Video quality impacts buy rates. On average, videos rated at least, four out of five stars had more than twice the buy rate of videos rated three stars or less.
